Bitcoin Highlights of the Week

Just two weeks after El Salvador launched its Bitcoin Freedom Visa for foreign citizens wanting to move to El Salvador, the Central American country has now passed a law for offering citizenship ti Bitcoin investors.

Marathon Digital have procured two mining sits for $178.6 million as it looks to increase its capacity ahead of the Bitcoin mining reward halving in 2024. With this purchase, Marathon Digital’s total mining capacity are brought up to 974 megawatts.

The SEC met this week with representatives of seven companies who has applied for spot Bitcoin ETFs. Among these were BlackRock, Grayscale Investments, ARK Investments 21Shares. A number of these players have been told by the SEC to make final changes to their applications, which are all believed to be approved by early 2024.

Hive Digital, the Vancouver-based mining company, has procured 7,000 new application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) bitcoin mining rigs from Bitmain. The ordered Antminer S21 units are slated for arrival from January through June next year.

Humboldt Bay Firefighters, a firefighter union in Eureka California, has become the third union in the US to purchase and hold Bitcoin on its balance sheet.

Other Highlights of the Week

After the security breach Dec 14th 2023, Ledger has dropped Blind Sign on all devices. Therefore, all transactions will have to be verified with Clear Signing leading to a new standard for Ledger in ensuring their users accounts are secured.

Paxos, the stablecoin issuer, has been granted regulatory approval from the New York Department of Financial Services (DFS) to launch its products on the Solana blockchain.

The new Rollup-as-a-Service (RaaS) provider, Astria, just launched and have already facilitated more than 500 rollups created over its first 24 hours.

BarnBridge DAO has been fined by the SEC due to its failure to register the project’s crypto asset securities. In total, BarnBridge has been issued to pay $1.7M to settle charges.
