Bitcoin Highlights of the Week

MicroStrategy, a prominent player in the bitcoin ecosystem, forecasts Bitcoin demand to double post halving. The main driver behind this forecast lies within the proposed ETF approvals from different institutions bringing crypto to TradFi.

The creator behind BitVM, Robin Linus, has drafted the Bitstream White Paper. Bitstream is a system aimed at reforming the economic structure of file storage by suggesting a usage-based model that rewards server contributions with bitcoin payments.

Grayscale Investments, the crypto asset manager, continue their dialogue with the SEC in order to transform their bitcoin trust into a spot bitcoin ETF.

Bitcoin SV, created following a hard fork from Bitcoin Cash, will be delisted from Coinbase from January 2024 due to various controversies and troublesome cases with Bitcoin SV.

Replacement Cycling Attacks on the Lightning Network

The Lightning Network, a second-layer solution designed to expedite Bitcoin transactions, recently came under scrutiny due to a vulnerability targeting a critical component called Hash Time Locked Contracts (HTLC).

Ethereum Highlights of the Week

BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, has filled for a spot Ethereum ETF on Nasdaq. The asset manager has filled a 19b-4 form with the SEC, and the ETF will trade under the name iShares Ethereum Trust.

USDC and EURC v2.2 upgrade reduces gas costs, improves support for account abstraction, and further bolsters security for transactions on EVM blockchains. This upgrade adds to the momentum of USDC innovation after its recent expansion to 6 new blockchain networks.

Coinbase introduces Verifications which are on-chain user attestations for account and country verifications that utilizes Ethereum’s Attestation Service (EAS).

With the launch of Notional v3 on Arbitrum, fixed rate lending and borrowing, variable rate lending and borrowing, and leveraged yield strategies are improved significantly for users.

Gaslite Drop - the most efficient airdrop tool - adds X post replies to their airdrop tools. Users can filter and token gate the recipients to claim airdrops.

Cosmos Highlights of the Week

The WrappedBTC DAO went live on Osmosis with DAO members BitGo, Wintermute, CoinList, Figment Capital, Chorus One and Osmosis Foundation. Next step for Osmosis is the launch of a Cosmos-native WBTC which is planned to come next.

Cosmos SDK Eden Upgrade

The Cosmos SDK has taken a leap forward with the release of Eden (v0.50) with the introduction of a slew of features and improvements. This latest version embodies a commitment to enhanced modularity and performance.

By October 2024, Evmos has announced depreciation of Cosmos transactions in order to align closer with Ethereum. This decision, will limit Evmos to address compatibility challenges, increase efficiency and bring uniformity to user and developer experiences.

Syntropy who fuels real-time on-chain data streams for dApps and blockchains, have joined Cosmos SDK with their data layer so blockchain data can flow freely and openly to whomever, whenever from any chain in real-time.

Ninji, the first-ever native wallet for Injective goes live. Ninji is built exclusively for the Injective ecosystem. With Ninji, users get instant access to Injective's decentralized exchanges, marketplaces, staking platforms, GameFi experiences and yield farming opportunities.

Other Highlights of the Week

Polygon Labs and NEAR Foundation teamp up on the development of a zero-knowledge (ZK) prover for Wasm blockchains. A zkWasm prover will bridge the gap between Wasm-based chains and the Ethereum ecosystem, including a growing multichain of Polygon CDK chains.

Kraken, the crypto exchange operator, has reportedly initiated discussions with a number of potential partners to support with the creation of a new Layer 2 blockchain. This will position Kraken in a similar state as Coinbase, whom recently themselves launched their own Layer 2 blockchain, Base.

Circle, the issuer of USDC stablecoin, has reportedly begun discussions to initiate a public offering in early 2024. Circle, which was last valued at $9 billion in a blank-check deal that fell through in 2022, is in talks with advisors to prepare for a potential IPO.
